I learned a long time ago that pure Vanilla Flavor is the best thing you can use.  The cheap kind of Vanilla works just as well as the most expensive.  Just put some direct from the bottle onto a piece of cotton.  Place in bowl(you can place a small piece of plastic wrap in bowl first); then leave overnight.   Your bad odor will be gone like a miracle.  To all who are interested, this works well in an ice chest or anywhere that you have an unpleasant odor.  Soak the cotton again if you need to.  This is such a cheap way to rid a closet of an odor which you do not want.
