Transferring
Designs to Gourds

I may have re-invented the
wheel... but.......... I have wanted to carve Celtic designs on gourds
but wasn't too good with the
carbon or graphite paper
and tracing designs on gourds............... I found a new and easy way
to transfer a design to a gourd................
I printed out on the computer
the Celtic design....... cut off the edges around the design....... soaked
the paper in water till it was thoroughly wet through.... painted a layer
of Elmer's glue on the back of the wet paper....... put the paper pattern
on the gourd and brushed over the design ........ used fingers and paper
towel to get all the air bubbles out, smooth the "crumples" of the design
and make sure the edges were glued down........... allow the design and
gourd to dry.......... then go at it
with the Dremel tool or
whatever......... I used the cone shape tip......... and cut through the
paper into the gourd (the tip didn't even want to skip off in its own direction)
Soak the gourd in water and wash off the glue and remains of the paper
......... NOW I can go back and touch up and do what ever.........
