"Perfect Circle" Device
by Tommy Arnold

This marvelous contraption consists of a piece of 3/4 inch wood that is cut  3 1/2 inches square with a 3/8 inch hole drilled in the center to a depth of 5/8 inch. Into this hole glue a 3/8 inch dowel that is about 12 inches long. Cut another piece of 3/4 inch wood 1 inch wide and 3 inches long. Through one end of this piece  ( 1 inch surface )  drill a 3/8 inch hole all the way through about 3/4 inch from the end.  On the other end drill a 9/32 inch hole at 90 degrees to the 1 inch surface about 3/4 inch from the end. Place the 3/8 inch hole over the dowel with the side hole to the left if you are right handed or vise-versa.  Into the 9/32 inch hole insert a short pencil with the eraser cut off. This contraption can be adjusted to any height you desire.  It will loosen and adjust easily after you use it a few times.  Simply hold the gourd flat and move the marker around the gourd or hold the marker and twist the gourd. CAUTION: to cut a level bowl,  be sure to keep the gourd oriented to its natural sitting position on a flat surface.
