Softer varieties of wheat straw can be prepared and used to do a technique called straw marquetry. This framed and matted cross is done in straw marquetry. The center of the cross is decorated with lacey-looking flowers made of splits of straw that were spun into thread and then made into larger flowers and topped with tiny marquetry flowers with dark brown glass beads. The solid oak frame (with glass) measures 11 1/2 inches height x 9 1/2 inches width. The cross is mounted on a forest green background with a double matt in gold and cream colors. This is the only one available at present. Frames and backgrounds will most likely be slightly different on future ones. |
